1. What is the payment schedule?
We require a deposit of 50% upon booking. Payment in full is required 60 days before your trip. Both deposit and the balance of your payment can be made by cheque or credit card.
2. Can I fly to Gowlland Harbour Resort?
Many guests choose the option to fly into our Resort - the trip by air is less than an hour, and the views are spectacular! Pacific Coastal Airlines has numerous flights each day from Vancouver to Campbell River, and we can provide complimentary transportation from the Campbell River Airport to Gowlland Harbour Resort. In addition, Vancouver Island Air and Harbour Air can provide float plane charters from Vancouver right to our dock. Other flights from outside of Vancouver will take you to Comox, less than an hour south of Campbell River. Transportation can be arranged, please contact us for further details.
3. Can I drive to Gowlland Harbour Resort?
Some guests choose to make the scenic drive up the coast of Vancouver Island to Campbell River. Allow approximately half a day from Vancouver if you decide to make this beautiful trip. Contact us for directions and visit BC Ferries in our "Links" page for ferry schedules. Complimentary parking at Gowlland Harbour Resort is available for guests.
4. What should I bring with me on my trip?
The weather during our season is typically warm and dry, so be sure to bring lightweight clothing such as shorts and t-shirts. Also bring a selection of warmer clothing for the evenings and in case of inclement weather. We can provide you with rain gear if neccessary. Sunglasses are a good item to have with you, and bring your bathing suit so that you can enjoy our hot tub and sauna. Be sure to remember your camera and some sunscreen as well!
5. I have special diet requirements. Can your chef accomodate me?
Our chef will be happy to prepare or tailor your meals according to your diet, be it low-carb, diabetic, or anything else, provided you notify us at least one week prior to your trip (and preferrably at the time of booking).
6. Will you process my fish for me?
All fish will be cleaned to your specifications by our guides at the end of your time on the water each day. As regulations allow, we can fillet and portion the fish for you, or else leave them cleaned whole, then we will vacuum pack and freeze them for you. Additionally, we offer smoking and canning of your fish through St. Jeans Smokehouse and Cannery if you desire. Please contact us for further details.
7. Where in Vancouver can I stay before or after my trip?
Vancouver, host to the 2010 Winter Olympics, is a stunning city. It would be time well spent if you took a day or two after your trip was done to visit it. There are many hotels in Vancouver that you can stay at. Gowlland Harbour Resort is pleased to recommend either the Delta Vancouver Aiport or the Fairmont Vancouver Airport for those wishing to have accommodations near the terminals. If you would prefer to stay in the downtown core, please contact us for further details.
8. What is your tipping policy?
Our guests often inquire about our policy regarding gratuities for guides and in-house staff members. Although there are no hard or fast rules, and tipping is always optional, when asked we suggest a 10% gratuity may be left for the in-house staff (envelopes are available in the drawer of your bedroom nightstand), while guides typically receive $25-$50 per boat for a 5-hour charter back on the dock before you head up to our patio for a cold drink.
9. Do you have a gift shop at Gowlland Harbour Resort?
Yes, we have a fully stocked gift shop in our main lodge. Inside, you'll find a mixture of jackets, hat, clothing, and First Nations artwork, along with small take home gifts for you family and friends. In addition, we have sunscreen, lip balm, and toiletries available.
